In an SVG document
additional textual information of the image can be provided by the author using
the elements title
and desc
.
Because in SVG tiny 1.2 there should only text inside
desc
, one has to put structured descriptions inside the metadata
element as meta data to achieve some further substructure with a semantical meaning
and an advanced presentation for the audience. The desc
from
SVG can simply be used for a short summary like an abstract.
A possibility to use elements with a semantical meaning is the Literature Markup Language (LML) as in this example. Another one could be XHTML.
SVG tiny 1.2 defines the attribute role
(the same as defined in XHTML2) to provide the possibility to add
semantical meaning to SVG (text) elements too, with a
CURIE the related element definitions from
LML, XHTML or another language can
be used to specify the semantical meaning of graphical rendered text in
SVG.
The metadata
element may be used to provide even more structured
metadata about the document itself or fragments of the document, typically using elements from
another namespace like RDF and the Dublin Core as in this sample.
In SVG 1.1 it is mentioned, that not more than one metadata element
should be provided per element. The simplest solution is to embed these other meta
information in an element for the already used language like the element meta
as shown in this sample.
